The centenary of former DMK party leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi, was celebrated by the Tamil Nadu government.

Tamil actor Jiiva has a penchant for playing real-life personalities in cinema. The actor is soon going to portray the lead role in the biopic of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. Before that, he had played the role of cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth in his Hindi debut 83. And now, Jiiva has expressed interest in essaying the role of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. The centenary of former DMK party leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi, was celebrated by the Tamil Nadu government and the DMK amidst much pomp and fare. The celebration included an exhibition featuring over 100 rare photographs of significant events in Karunanidhi’s life. Additionally, various technological highlights were incorporated into the exhibition. The exhibition, which concludes on June 10, has attracted a large number of visitors.

Jiiva was one of the many celebrities who flocked to the exhibition. He was accompanied by noted director, producer and lyricist Pa. Vijay. After touring the exhibition and paying his respects to the late politician, also called Kalaignar (artists) by his followers, Jiiva talked to the media and expressed his amazement at how beautiful the exhibition had turned out. “ It was wonderful to see how much Kalaignar has done as Chief Minister of the state. DMK has been serving the people of Tamil Nadu for over 40 years”. He also praised the holographic technology used in the exhibition.

He then told reporters that he would love to play Karunanidhi on screen if a biopic is ever made on him. However, since narrating his life story would take a lot of time, Jiiva said he feels that one should make a web series instead of a film on the life of Karunanidhi.

Jiiva made his debut with the film Aasai Aasaiyai and has gone on to many films in his career. He most recently appeared in Custody and Singapore Saloon, both of which received a very lukewarm response at the box office.
