Nalan Kumarasamy will return to feature filmmaking after eight years with Vaa Vaathiyaar.

Actor Karthi, after his success last year at the box office, is gearing up to maintain the momentum of hit films this year. He will be gracing the silver screens with the films Meiyazhagan and Vaa Vaathiyaar. The release date of the films has not been announced yet. Vaa Vaathiyaar is written and directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. It will mark the return of the director to feature filmmaking after eight years. His last feature film was Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum, which hit screens in 2016. The first look of the Vaa Vaathiyaar was recently released, which featured Karthi in a cop avatar, surrounded by the MGR lookalikes. Karthi will be working for the first time under the direction of Nalan Kumarasamy. Kirthi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Anandaraj, Rajkiran, Karunakaran and GM Sundar will also play prominent roles in the film. In a recent conversation with media, Nalan Kumaraswamy said that the film Vaa Vaathiyaar is a tribute to all the masala films released in the 90s.

While talking about his return to feature filmmaking, Nalan Kumarasamy said that masala film is a very beautiful genre that is present in Indian cinema. “It’s big in scale and will have a lot of big fights and songs,” said Nalan Kumarasamy.

The first look of the film created a buzz in the entertainment industry. Nalan explained the significance of the poster and shared a few characteristics of Karthi in the story. He said that in the film, Karthi’s character is part of a family that has been generationally MGR fans, including his grandfather who is played by Rajkiran.

“So, he, too, has been brought up as an ardent MGR fan. We wanted to highlight that aspect of the story in the poster,” said Nalan Kumarasamy. He also shared that there is a surprising element in the story, for which Karthi was the most appropriate, and hence was selected for the lead role in the film.

The film was produced by KE Gnanavel Raja under the banner of Studio Green. The music of the film is composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
